The Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed for healthcare professionals who provide care in both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This includes doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, medical and nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel.

COURSE CONTENTS
CPR Skills:
- Adult, Child, and Infant single-rescuer and team resuscitation
- Rescue breathing techniques
- Ventilation using barrier devices, pocket masks, and bag-valve-mask devices
- Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
- Choking Management:
Responsive and unresponsive adult, child, and infant
Team Dynamics:
- Effective team communication and dynamics during emergencies

Calling for help - Basic and advanced airway management
- Use of bag-valve-mask (BVM) devices
COURSE MATERIALS
Participants receive a 62-page A4 BLS Provider student manual for comprehensive review before, during, and after the course.
PRE-REQUISITE
This course is a pre-requisite for advanced life support courses, including:
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Neonatal Life Support (ANLS)
- Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS)
- BLS Instructor course
TESTING & CERTIFICATION
- Participants will undergo both written and practical skills testing to assess their competency in CPR and AED usage.
- Successful completion of the course requires participants to demonstrate proficiency in CPR and AED procedures, achieving a minimum score of 84% on the written evaluation.
- Upon successful completion, participants will receive 11 CPD points, comprising 10 regular CEUs and 1 Ethics unit, along with a BLS provider certificate/card.
- This internationally accredited course adheres to the standards and guidelines set by the Resuscitation Council of South Africa and the American Heart Association® Guidelines.
- Certification obtained from this course remains valid for a duration of 2 years.
