The Grand Prior, His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester has accepted the nomination from the Nominations Committee and Order Affairs Council to appoint Stuart Waetzel KStJ as Chancellor of the Priory for South Africa of the Order of St John with immediate effect.
Having joined the St John Brigade forty years ago, Stuart has a long history with St John marked with many achievements covering various aspects of our organisation. Not only has he successfully led our volunteer members as Chief Commissioner for over 11 years, but he also gained valuable experience and understanding of Order ceremonial matters in his roles of Director of Ceremonies, Chairman of the Brigade Honours and Awards Committee and as a member of the Priory Honours and Awards Committee. Stuart recently held the positions of Deputy Vice Chancellor and Acting Chancellor.
Stuart’s corporate background spans more than 20 years in corporate governance in a major financial institution listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, with operations throughout Africa and the United Kingdom, exposing him to international best practice in corporate governance, which he will bring to the operations within the Priory for South Africa.
I’m very honoured by this appointment and I’m incredibly grateful for all your support and encouragement. As Chancellor, I will support the CEO and the Executive, offering insights into new business opportunities to explore, whilst supporting them in doing the right business the right way.
